The friends and family of the late BJ Harris have created a yearly scholarship fund in his honor. He was a dear friend and mentor to so many while working at the Chesapeake Inn for over 12 years.
He passed away suddenly in December of 2012 of Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most common and most aggressive malignant primary brain tumor in humans. To lose someone so tragically and unexpectedly at such a young age can be truly devastating to those he left behind. We wanted to honor his life and what he has meant to so many who crossed his path. We feel there is no better way to carry on BJ’s legacy for years to come than by creating this yearly scholarship in his name.
In starting this event we are hoping to pass on BJ’s passion, drive and determination to a deserving young student each year that is balancing the fine line of going to school and working hard while maintaining good grades. The scholarship will hopefully give them that extra boost in furthering their education and helping them pursue their goals in life.
We have given away 74 scholarships totaling over 300k for the past 11 years of our BJ Harris Scholarship Fundraiser.
